Meet Your California Candidates

We have several Libertarian candidates that will be on the November ballot who made it through the March 3rd California Primary, some who won through a write-in campaign.  Meet some of these candidates in their own words, and learn more about them through this month’s profile.

Jamie Dluzak
CKD ENT.

I am Libertarian:

I belong to the political party that does not judge what one does as long as that person or entity is not harming or restricting the rights of others.  My political party grants all social freedoms formed by individual or social consent.  My political party condones all economic rights under explicit or implicit contract.  We espouse the ‘do no harm’ principle for ourselves, our cities, states, and nation.

I belong to the political party that allows the individual to see through her eyes, live by her creed, and do as she sees fit come what may to her.  For her birth as all of ours is shrouded in mystery.  We hope for the full manifestation of the individual.

I belong to the political party that is enamored with limiting itself while seeking no limits to the entire range of civic and economic agreements and institutions that arise from individual liberties.  I belong to the political party that views itself as an ascetic, meant to live simply and by the strict dictate of limiting our own power.

I belong to the political party that espouses voluntary cooperation and consent between participants.  We hold the exchange of ideas and the exchange of goods as equally blessed forms of human expression and human activity.  I belong to the political party that believes that peace is created through voluntary exchange.  We hold the collective good is best achieved voluntarily.

I belong to the political party that believes in a human nature.  We hold a positive view of human nature when left to choose freely and produce freely.  We implicitly hold humanity to be cooperative, creative, adaptive, ingenious, resourceful, dynamic, limitless in potential, and exceptionally sacred.  We believe individuals can comprehend that their rights are enshrined as they enshrine the rights of others.  We believe in the dignity of the human being and the right to life.

I belong to the political party that will protect your right to life, your right to property, and your right to choose your happiness.

I am Jamie Dluzak, 2020 Libertarian candidate for California’s Senate District Nine.

State Assembly District 7: James Just

Map of State Assembly District 7, which straddles Sacramento County and Yolo Costa County

I’m running to give the voters of Assembly District 7 a choice for something new- an opportunity to have one of their own in office. I’m not a career politician, but like so many of the voters in my district, I am a blue-collar man that has been victimized by career politicians. I know the struggles of the working class, I know the horrible impacts that policies implemented by the legislature have on taxes, criminal justice, and cost of living. I’m campaigning to be a man of the people, and for the people.

If elected, I want to do what I can to help get government out of people’s lives, to make them freer to do what they need and want to do. I also want to increase government accountability and transparency, both for my own office if elected, but also for the criminal justice systems and government agencies. The people can’t hold government accountable if they don’t know what its doing; and I believe that more and more frequent town halls, ease of access to government officials and records, and fewer immunity mechanisms to protect wrongdoers. I also want to help remove restrictions on the economy and zoning to help increase job availability and increase the quality of life in California neighborhoods.

Saratoga Union School District Board of Trustees: Azadeh Weber

Saratoga Union School District map

My name is Azadeh Weber and I am running for Saratoga Union School Board 2020. If elected to school board I would like to support school vouchers to provide families with greater choice when it comes to their childrens’ education. School vouchers will create a competition for funding, whereas public schools will naturally step their game up. As a board member, I would pursue common sense education and would encourage classic literature for character development, liberty gardens to contribute to the school lunch program, mental health campaigns, safety programs and community involvement through social volunteering. I would like to extend some homeschooling options that were instituted during the government shut down for COVID-19 to supplement in person schooling, so as children may benefit from Computer Assisted Learning that personalizes education to their ability. Please support my campaign by making a check out to “Azadeh Weber at Saratoga Union School Board 2020,” and mailing it to:

If you are interested in volunteering to my campaign please email me at drazadehweber@gmail.com

I appreciate all the help I can get.

With gratitude,

Azadeh

Menifee City Council District 1:  Bob Karwin

Menifee city map

Bob Karwin is an attorney who has been a registered Libertarian since 2004. In 2008, he made national news when he was asked by the party to draft and file a federal court injunction against a Presidential Forum at California’s Saddleback Church, which excluded LP candidate, Bob Barr. http://www.orangejuiceblog.com/2008/08/bob-barr-says-saddleback-church-obamamccain-event-an-illegal-contribution/ Bob has served on the City of Menifee Planning Commission for 5 years  and is running to fill the City Council seat that will be vacated in 2020 by the termed out Councilor, Greg August.

“I believe that government should be held to its limited, but very important functions: Public Safety and Facilitating Commerce.  My campaign will focus on making sure our new police department does its job to protect our citizens from crime. We will also make sure that the roads are properly maintained and managed so our citizens can get where they need to go. Finally, we will promote new business in town to give Menifee’s entrepreneurs the opportunity to support themselves and for the rest of the citizens to have access to a wide variety of goods and services.”

Menifee’s District 1 has over 25,000 residents, so winning this election would be a major step forward for the Libertarian Party. Bob would appreciate your support to take the campaign to victory. Donations to the campaign can be made through his website: www.karwinforcouncil.com

Mayor of Menifee:  Ricky Estrada

The country needs a voice for the silent majority in the country, from the youth to seniors, and I will bring that new blood to government. I will bring fresh, and innovative ideas for the city of Menifee. As part of the city of Menifee’s future generation, I want to bring an empowering voice to every citizen with an extensive door to door and personal outreach campaign, as politicians have lost touch. The country is always changing, but our core foundation based on the constitution always needs protection.

I will push for the city of Menifee:

1) Less taxes, and more dependability on non-taxpayer revenue

2) Appreciation for the open Menifee landscape, and more hiking trails

3)Reduction in traffic congestion, and creating a city managed “Menifee Trolley system”

4)Less government, and more emphasis on constitutional freedoms

We all deserve a government which puts the power in every citizens hands. I hold an oath to always bring forth policies which empower every individual’s self destiny, love thy neighbor, and uphold the constitution. In God We Trust.

Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District Board of Directors: Kate O’Brien

Kate O’Brien

My name is Kate O’Brien. I am from your government and I am here to help.

I am up again this November for the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District Board of Directors, which serves the people of Simi Valley and of Oak Park.  I have held this post since 2000, when I won my seat by 3 votes. As far as I know, I am the first Libertarian to sit on the BOD.

Local politics is a perfect example of economics; the study of the allocation of limited resources among unlimited wants. Sometimes there is no clear libertarian solution. Sometimes you are navigating a tightrope like a drunken clown on a unicycle.

However, it has always been an honor and a privilege to serve the taxpayers of Ventura County. I am hoping for another four years to continue doing so.

There is not a lot of opportunity for ideology at the local level; local politics is about making sure the potholes are filled and the parks are well-maintained. I do have a bias towards lower taxes and less regulation, which is how I vote. And will continue to vote.

I am happy to take donations. Friends Of Kate O’Brien is located at 1058 Pacific Avenue, Simi Valley, CA  93065. Our campaign ID# is 1268697. I am also on Venmo; address is @Kate-Obrien-24.
