Anti-War Resolution

SACRAMENTO, California – At the prompting of Santa Clara County central committee member Ed Wimmers, the Libertarian Party of California has adopted a resolution calling for an end to U.S. government involvement in the current war in Europe.

The resolution was adopted by a vote of the LPCA’s Executive Committee, meeting immediately after the close of the recent state convention in Sacramento, on Sunday, February 19, 2023. Both the sentiment and the form of the two-sentence statement met with approval from the committee, with Elizabeth Stump, LPCA Northern Area Coordinator, commenting “thanks for being succinct”.

Text of the resolution: “We support the withdrawal of the U.S. from NATO. We oppose taxpayer funds being spent on the war between Russia and Ukraine.”

Thank you, I agree with this resolution. Will there be an anti-war rally planned on the west coast?

Wars are started by aggressors. A people defending their national independence are not to be condemned the way that Libertarians should condemn an aggressor. And the Russian is clearly engaging in aggression against the people of Ukraine.

One does not stop war by limiting the right of defense. That only will encourage aggressors.

If the Libertarian Party is against aid to Ukraine because it is paid for with taxpayer dollars, then the Party leadership should stop working with the socialist Peoples Party and with communist groups that want to raise taxes on everybody.

Instead of “the Libertarian Party of California has adopted a resolution calling for an end to U.S. government involvement in the current war in Europe.”. Shouldn’t it be “the Libertarian Party of California has adopted a resolution calling for an end to U.S. government involvement in the current war in Europe AND the middle east.”. I am already reregistering to atone for donating to RFK, but just to be sure you know.

As a lifelong Libertarian I do not support the US withdrawal from NATO and will not vote for a party that does not support peace in the world. If they continue to support apartheid countries I will vote for another party.

My major concern is the war in Ukraine. While Russia is accused of being the aggressor, I think NATO has provoked Russia by expanding to Russia’s borders and thereby negating the tacit agreement 30 years ago with Gorbachev. Why is this provocation by the US and others not being addressed? Please address this!
