Message From The Chair: Happy New Year

Happy New Year!! I hope that everyone has had a wonderful holiday season and you’re ready for the exciting Libertarian events coming up in 2020!

There is a lot going on and I want to keep you up to date on how you can get more involved in the Libertarian Party this year.

On the weekend of January 18th and 19th, we have three events happening at the Visalia Marriott at the Convention Center located at 300 South Court, Visalia, CA 93291.

On Saturday the 18th we will be holding our 1st Quarter Executive Committee Meeting. We will be taking care of important business which includes the approval of our 2020 Budget. We will also be making endorsements for our 2020 candidates; if you are a Libertarian running for partisan or non-partisan office I hope you will come and seek the Party’s endorsement.

Following the Executive Committee Meeting, we will be hosting a reception to support our 2020 candidates, with many exciting guests and speakers. There will be several special guests including Riverside County Supervisor, Jeff Hewitt; 2020 Presidential candidates, Ken Armstrong and Souraya Faas! In addition it will be an opportunity for you to meet our local candidates and Justin Quigley will be preforming some really great county music! This really is going to be a special event, with very limited seating, so if you want to go you better act fast! You can purchase your tickets at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/candidate-support-dinner-win-in-2020-tickets-85397392901.

On Sunday the 19th there will be the Central Area Leadership Summit, which will feature training sessions and panels to help our counties grow! For more information please go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/libertarian-party-of-california-central-leadership-summit-tickets-84477369085.

And coming in February, the Libertarian Party of California will be hosting the 2020 Convention in the West Los Angeles area and you’re invited! The convention will be held at the beautiful Doubletree by Hilton located at 6161 Centinela Avenue, Culver City, CA 90230.

The convention will take place over President’s Day weekend, February 15-17, 2020 and tomorrow’s the last day to take advantage of reduced pricing. In addition, our special room rate at the hotel will be ending on January 24th so you really don’t want to wait!

I truly believe this will be one of the most important conventions for the Libertarian Party of California in years. In addition to considering major changes to the Platform and Bylaws we will be electing four At-Large members of the LPC Executive Committee and Alternates, our Libertarian National Committee Regional Representative and Alternate, and our Judicial Committee who will serve for the next two years. We will also be endorsing candidate for our 2020 elections and conducting a Presidential Straw Poll. We need you to be there to take part to ensure everyone’s voice is heard!

The LPC will also be hosting a series of RONR 101 electronic meetings to insure all delegates are up on the important aspects on how business is run during the convention. Parliamentarians Alicia Mattson and Richard Brown will lead the discussions which will help all those that are interested to understand how to navigate Robert’s Rules of Order and our specific state Bylaws. I will be updating everyone on the dates once they are final.

In preparation for the Convention you can gear up at our updated online store! Please go to https://shop.spreadshirt.com/LPCalifornia were you’ll find specially branded convention shirts, caps, tote bags and more!

At the convention, the LPC will be hosting a debate that will be watched throughout the county, and you can be there! California is the largest National Libertarian Party affiliate, and all of our candidates will be attending. To make it even better it will be YOU, the delegates, that decide who will be on the stage. Matt Welch, Reason Magazine Editor at-Large, will moderate the debate, and it looks as though we will have all of the announced candidates in attendance. This debate is sure to be something that will be the talk of the LP throughout the nation. The delegates at convention will be given tokens that they can use to ensure their favored candidates appear on the debate stage, so we won’t know who they will be until the night of the debate, which will take place on Sunday, February 16th.

On the National Libertarian front, we will be electing our delegates for the 2020 Convention in Austin Texas, May 21-25th. It’s the delegates that elect the Presidential candidates as well as the national leadership, so this is sure to be a convention you will want to be a part of! We will also be hosting a debate of the candidates for LNC Chair, which currently includes Josh Smith and Mike Shipley, but we are sure that more candidates will be throwing their hat into the ring as the convention gets closer. For more information please go to https://libertarianconvention.org/.

We also have several great speakers with more to be announced soon. Lincoln Chaffe, former US Senator and Governor of Rhode Island, and recent convert to the Libertarian Party, will be a featured speaker. Other speakers include Jennifer Grossman, CEO of the Atlas Foundation; Erin Cruz, founder and CEO of RAN Action Fund, who is spearheading the non-partisan Recall Newsom campaign; Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Hewitt, the highest elected Libertarian in the United States; and many more! To see a full list of our speakers you can go to https://ca.lp.org/convention/.

All Libertarians, Libertarian Party of California (LPC) members and those who are interested in learning about Libertarianism are encouraged to attend and help shape the future of the LPC and the liberty movement. Come see and mingle with fellow liberty-minded people, speakers and enjoy the festivities!

I know you won’t want to miss any of these events! I look forward to seeing you there!
