I truly believe this will be one of the most important conventions for the Libertarian Party of California in years. In addition to considering major changes to the Platform and Bylaws we will be electing four At-Large members of the LPC Executive Committee and Alternates, our Libertarian National Committee Regional Representative and Alternate, and our Judicial Committee who will serve for the next two years. We will also be endorsing candidate for our 2020 elections and conducting a Presidential Straw Poll. We need you to be there to take part to ensure everyone’s voice is heard!

The 2020 Platform Committee has completed a preliminary report of the recommendations they will be presenting to the convention delegates at the upcoming convention. You can find the report at https://u1myo26o1t789cb2l4fjwcx8-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/LPC-PRELIMINARY-PLATFORM-REPORT-2020.pdf

Because of the substantive recommendations that are included in the Platform Committee’s Report, they will be holding a special hearing on Friday, February 14th at 4:00. This will be an opportunity for all members to appear before the committee and present their views. Directly following the hearing, the Platform Committee will hold its final meeting at 5:00. Both the hearing and the meeting will be held on the third floor of the host hotel in the Ballroom Foyer.

The LPC will also be hosting a series of RONR 101 electronic meetings to insure all delegates are up on the important aspects on how business is run during the convention. Parliamentarians Alicia Mattson, Richard Brown, Caryn Ann Harlos and Mike Seebeck will lead the discussions which will help all those that are interested to understand how to navigate Robert’s Rules of Order and our specific state Bylaws. The first will held on Sunday, February 9th at 1:00 via Zoom; join https://zoom.us/j/789736563 or call (669) 900-6833 and use meeting ID 789 736 563. I will send an additional email with the times of the following meetings.

At the convention, the LPC will be hosting a debate that will be watched throughout the country, and you can be there! California is the largest National Libertarian Party affiliate, and all of our candidates will be attending. To make it even better it will be YOU, the delegates, that decide who will be on the stage. Comedian Andrew Heaton will be hosting the event and Matt Welch, Reason Magazine Editor at-Large, will moderate the debate, and it looks as though we will have all of the announced candidates in attendance. The delegates at convention will be given tokens that they can use to ensure their favored candidates appear on the debate stage, so we won’t know who they will be until the night of the debate, which will take place on Sunday, February 16th.

You can be set and ready for the Convention and gear up at our updated online store! Please go to https://shop.spreadshirt.com/LPCalifornia were you’ll find specially branded convention shirts, caps, tote bags and more!

On the National Libertarian front, we will be electing our delegates for the 2020 Convention in Austin Texas, May 21-25th. It’s the delegates that elect the Presidential candidates as well as the national leadership, so this is sure to be a convention you will want to be a part of! We will also be hosting a debate of the candidates for LNC Chair, which includes Joe Bishop-Henchman, Josh Smith and Mike Shipley. All Libertarians, Libertarian Party of California (LPC) members and those who are interested in learning about Libertarianism are encouraged to attend and help shape the future of the LPC and the liberty movement. Come see and mingle with fellow liberty-minded people, speakers and enjoy the festivities!

I know you won’t want to miss this event! I look forward to seeing you there!
