Prop 50: A Divided House of Liberty

Proposition 50 has stirred one of the most spirited debates in our ranks. Some see it as a short-term correction; others see a precedent that power “temporarily” seized is rarely returned.

“Once they take something away, it will never come back.” – Ron Holland
“Sunset provisions are easily gotten around… 2030 is far away.” – James Anderson Merritt
“Why believe anything is truly temporary?” – Terence Curtis
“This is by initiative—you can’t just undo it without another vote.” – GN Cruz

Whatever your vote, the principle remains: transparent, accountable, limited government must outlast partisan advantage.

Why Say No on Prop 50

  • Independent oversight: The Citizens Redistricting Commission is citizen-led, not controlled by career politicians.
  • Community representation: Fair maps keep neighborhoods and local interests together.
  • Accountability: Competitive districts make legislators earn votes instead of relying on gerrymanders.

Handing line-drawing back to insiders risks carving apart communities and entrenching incumbents for years. Say No on Prop 50.

Run for Office: Plant the Seeds of Liberty

From our website, eight Californians have already raised their hands—from President to School Board. Deadlines are approaching, and we’re building resources to guide first-time candidates.

From the Blog

This week: when mandates backfire and when over-taxation smothers initiative.

Wow—this graphic stirred up quite a reaction! We wanted to highlight the growing culture of resentment toward success and wealth—but some readers thought we were advocating inheritance taxes. To be clear, the Libertarian Party firmly opposes all forms of inheritance and wealth taxes. Our goal was to point out how envy and over-taxation stifle creativity, entrepreneurship, and growth. Lesson learned—we’ll make that distinction clearer next time!

Sometimes the wrong image choice gets the loudest feedback — lesson learned!

Stay tuned for more convention and candidate updates. Got news to share with fellow Libertarians? Send it our way — we’d love to include it in a future issue.
