I hope to see you this weekend, and I’d like to personally invite you to get involved. We are electing a bunch of people to a bunch of things this weekend, and if you’ve got a project you want to spearhead, you should come to convention and find liberty loving friends to help you achieve it. That’s ultimately what activity in the party is all about: you doing whatever it is you’re passionate about in service to a freer California, with the caveat that your project needs to be getting you out there into the place where you live, making stuff actually happen.
All eight at-large positions on the executive committee are up for election this weekend, as well as the two at-large alternate positions. As the current crop of at-larges took office, I urged them to chase their liberty-oriented passions and pursue whatever outreach project moved them. The results have been a treat to watch, and some great stuff has gotten started over the last six months.
That energy is driving some of the current at-larges to run for another term–they’ve got things they want to keep going, and I’m excited to help get stuff out of their way so they can shine. Unfortunately, not everyone currently in an at-large seat is running again. That’s okay. Nobody’s got anything to be ashamed of; sometimes life is just life.
But that means that if you’ve got a project you want to spearhead, you need to come this weekend and run for an at-large seat where you can do it! To be clear, don’t come with a “we should” theory; come with an “I will” goal. If you’re ready to do work, I and the rest of the executive committee are ready to cheer you on.
Of course, while every at-large needs a project, not every project needs to be led by an at-large. Maybe you would still like to get appointed to a committee, doing member outreach or communications or legislation-watching, or something else. Come on out and talk to the executive committee about it! We’ll have to recompile all the committees in the days and weeks after this weekend. If you want a piece of that action you can get in on the ground floor this weekend.
What the LPCA needs most right now are outward-facing, goal-oriented passion projects–YOUR project, run and done by you. Still, there are some seats up for election this year for internal offices, like the judicial committee. This is the group that helps resolve disputes and check committee actions against the bylaws, just to make sure we’re following our own rules. Sometimes we can all use an extra set of eyes. If you want to be one of those sets of eyes, there are a total of seven seats up for election this weekend on this committee.
And then there’s the big one: the national delegation. This is a national convention year, and we have 107 delegate slots to fill (and 107 alternates), as well as our LNC region 4 rep and alternate rep. This crew will head to Grand Rapids in May and vote on the business of the national party, including the election of new national officers. Three of the candidates for national chair will be at our show this weekend, where we’ll hold a debate, so you can start to consider how you’d vote if you were there. If you want a spot in Michigan, the convention this weekend is where you can get it.
It’s time to get involved, my fellow Libertarians in the Golden State. Let’s keep this party going!

This month I'd like to take some time to recognize the hard work of not only Mimi Robson, but of the entire Convention Committee. She and the rest of the Convention Committee have really put the effort into making this year's convention a success. So, let's give a moment of gratitude to Kara Smith, Brandon Jackson, Raquel Lester, and Terry Floyd for taking on the monumental task of planning our 2026 State Convention. We would also like to give a special shout out to Lars Mapstead and Loren Dean for all the extra help they too have given to the committee.
With only 6 months since the last LPC convention, the team really didn't have much time at all to put this together. For contrast, we normally have a full year to plan our convention. However, with all the changes to our schedule over the years, and the looming change in the National Convention schedule there was simply nothing that could be done. We had to have it at this time of year, and boy did the team really hit the ground running.
Reserving a venue, booking speakers, planning breakout sessions are just but a few of the numerous tasks that have to be completed every year to make our convention a success. We couldn't have had a better team on the job.
From all the volunteers working within the Libertarian Party of California, to the Convention Committee, we Thank You!
