2008 LPC Annual Convention of Delegates

Purpose

The Libertarian Party of California meets annually to consider changes to the Party platform, bylaws and to elect leadership for the upcoming year.

The 2008 Convention will also include a Presidential Straw Poll as well as the selection of Delegates to the Libertarian National Convention in Denver, Memorial Day weekend (May 22-26) to choose our Presidential nominee.


Date & Location

The Executive Committee has scheduled the 2008 Convention on February 22-24, 2008 at the Marina Village Conference Center in San Diego.

You can register:

  • Online via credit card
  • Mail/FAX via application form
  • By calling the State office at (877) 884-1776 from 10 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • Note: Not all packages are offered through the online form.

    A la carte pricing is offered through the mail/FAX form or by phone only.

    The Convention Committee has secured a group rate with the Dana on Mission Bay of $159 night (single/double occupancy).

    To Be Qualified As a Delegate

    Your membership in the state Central Committee must be in good standing.

    Membership dues may be renewed online or by calling the State office. Refer to the Membership page for more information.

    For 2008, delegates to the Convention are no longer chosen by the county Parties per a bylaw change passed at the 2007 Convention.

    Voter registration forms will be made available at the credentialing desk for those eligible to be a registered voter in California and are registered in any other party other than the Libertarian Party, excluding those who Decline to State. However, you still must have been a state Central Committee member for a period of any ninety days prior to the Convention to be eligible to be a delegate.

    The seventeen members of the Executive Committee (5 Officers, 10 At-Large Representatives, and 2 Alternates) are allowed to seat one delegate irrespective of the above rules. Contact these members directly if you are unable to qualify.

    Bylaws Committee Report

  • Final report (Adopted December 10, 2007)
  • The 2008 Bylaws Committee will meet one more time to consider amendments only to the final report on the 1st Day of the Convention, Friday, February 22, 2008.


    Platform Committee

    The 2008 Platform Committee will meet on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 1 p.m. to recommend platform proposals to the full convention. Each county organization is eligible to select a representative to the Platform Committee. Under the party bylaws, the representative must be selected by January 22, 30 days before the convention.
