Franchise Tax Board's "Ready Return" Program

While many people are still scrambling to file their tax returns, 50,000 Californians have had their returns filled out for them by the state, in a Franchise Tax Board pilot project to streamline the way Californians pay their taxes. But the "Ready Return" program has already provoked powerful opposition from people who think the state should stay out of the tax preparation business.
